Hannaford Supermarket expanding with two new locations
Wise supermarket shoppers have made it clear: They want the availability of self-checkout options, more grab-and-go meals, and online grocery access. They should be able to choose between organic, natural and gluten-free products. And if possible, all of the above should be offered at a reasonable price.
As the kirana industry is facing inflation and dissatisfied customers, a kirana shopper is striving to meet the demands of all the shopkeepers by opening new locations and upgrading their existing locations to add all the extras.
Hannaford Supermarket, a Maine-based grocer, announced that it is adding two new locations in the Northeast to its fleet of 184 units. The first location in Brunswick, NY opened its doors to the community last week, while the chain also plans to add a location in its hometown of Scarborough, Maine. The latter will open in 2023.
Andrea said, “All of us at Hannaford are excited to provide our high quality, fresh food and produce, convenient services like Hannaford-to-go, excellent customer service and everyday low prices to more shoppers in the Brunswick area. ” Nickerson, VP of Retail Operations.
The new supermarket covers 49,000 square feet; Whereas the one in Scarborough would be even larger at 58,000 square feet.

Additionally, the chain finished remodeling its five existing locations this summer.
Remodeling projects vary from store to store, but include new self-checkout kiosks in Burlington, VT; Online Grocery Order in Townsend, Mass.; More organic and gluten-free products in Brandon, VT; Pharmacy overhaul with new self-checkout kiosk in Rotterdam, NY; and a large pharmacy in Leominster, Mass., according to WinSight Grocery Business,
Hanford officials also promised that the chain would be powered entirely by renewable energy by 2024, and a net-zero carbon business by 2040.
